What your gums say about your health.

What do healthy gums look like? If your gums are firm and pink, you have healthy gums. Also, healthy gums produce a natural smell in your mouth. Maintaining the health of your gums is essential for your long-term overall health, and the tissue of our gums also helps in supporting the health of your teeth.

How to maintain healthy gums?

  1. Brush and floss at least twice a day.
  2. Use the right toothpaste
  3. A healthy diet
  4. Avoid smoking
  5. Visit the Dentist regularly

What about unhealthy gums? What do they look like? If you notice some redness or swelling on your gums or maybe you bleed while brushing or flossing your teeth, please know these are some signs of unhealthy gums.  Other signs of unhealthy gums are bad breath, loose teeth, and chewing pain.

Can you get healthy gums again? It depends; if you have a mild gum disease like Gingivitis, you may be able to reverse this if you pay attention to your oral hygiene and have dental cleanings regularly. However, if you have developed a more severe gum diseases such as Periodontitis, you may need help from a Periodontist who would probably have to perform a more extensive treatment.
