Doctors from Sage Dental Complete Educational Program in South America, Conduct Dental Implant Surgery on Patients in Brazil

The Sage Academies Program Enables Dental Professionals from Sage Dental’s 80-Plus Practices to Provide Dental Care to Economically Disadvantaged Patients.

BOCA RATON, Fla.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Sage Dental, a leading dental service organization (DSO) committed to providing consistent, high-quality care, as well as non-clinical business and administrative services to affiliated practices, recently took part in an ongoing educational program that was sponsored by Neodent, in which four Sage dentists working with a team of local providers conducted implant surgeries on patients in Curitiba, Brazil.

“The experience in Brazil was even better than we could have imagined, our team was able to learn about and then conduct replacement techniques that are very unique,” said Dr. Tony Cruz, Senior Dental Director, Sage Dental. “The benefit of what our dental professionals learned in this program, as well as all our Sage Academies training, increases their proficiencies and familiarity with challenging dental procedures.”

The event was part of the Sage Academies program, which enables dental professionals from Sage’s 80-plus practices to receive valuable ongoing training in a wide range of areas that include implants, overdentures, clear aligners and more. The program included two days of education and training related to Neodent’s dental implant system and two days of live surgery. Implants from Neodent, which is owned by Straumann Group, are designed to address all clinical needs and bone types with various implant designs, two connection types and two surfaces — NeoPoros and Acqua (hydrophilic) — that enhance success rates and treatment outcomes.

The surgeries were performed by Sage dentists Dr. Maria Balda, Dr. Tony Cruz, Dr. Ruben Daboin, and Dr. Robert Ma. The group was also joined by Sage Dental’s Director of Learning and Development, Natalie Curtis.

For the Sage team that was on-site treating patients, the experience provided an opportunity to give care to individuals who may not have the financial resources to obtain high-quality dental treatment, and some of those who were treated received multiple implants. Following the dental work that was done by the Sage team, the patients will receive follow-up care from dentists at the Latin American Institute of Dental Research and Education (ILAPEO), an internationally renowned center of research and continuing education in dental clinical practice.

“Sage Academies provided an amazing learning and education process for me, the surgical part of the program in Brazil was very hands on,” said Dr. Robert Ma. “We had a one-to-one doctor to student ratio in which the head clinician guided us on how to place the implant. It was life changing for me because I was able to have a different perspective on where and how to place implants – it was amazing.”
