It occurs when your tooth&#8217;s enamel becomes damaged, allowing bacteria to penetrate and cause decay. The result is often a painful and sensitive tooth.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Gum Disease:<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0Another common cause of toothache is\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/simpleseogroup.co\/sage\/causes-symptoms-and-treatment-of-gum-disease\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">gum disease<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">. Gum disease occurs when the gums become inflamed, and the connective tissue and bone supporting your teeth become damaged. The result is often a toothache that worsens when chewing or biting.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Tooth Injury:\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0Tooth injury can also cause toothache. A tooth injury can be a simple chip or crack in the tooth to a more severe injury such as a broken tooth.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Tooth Infection:\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">A tooth infection, such as an abscess, can also cause a painful toothache. An abscess is a pus that forms around the tooth and can cause significant pain and swelling.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Treatments for Toothache<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Fillings:<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0Fillings are a standard treatment for tooth decay. Your dentist will remove the part of your tooth that is decayed and fill the cavity with a material such as composite resin or amalgam.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Root Canal:<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0If a tooth is infected, your dentist may recommend root canal therapy. This procedure involves removing the infected pulp inside the tooth and sealing the root canal to prevent further infection.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Extractions:<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0Sometimes, a tooth may need to be extracted if it is too damaged to be saved. This can include cases where the tooth is broken beyond repair or if it is causing significant pain.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Five steps you should follow to prevent toothaches:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">1. Brush your teeth at least two times daily with fluoride toothpaste.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">2. Floss daily to remove plaque and food from between teeth.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">3. Limits sugary and acidic foods.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">4. Avoid smoking and excessive alcohol consumption.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">5. Visit a dentist for cleanings and check-ups at least twice a year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">If you are experiencing a toothache, you must see a dentist as soon as possible.
