South Florida Duct Restoration

Duct Restoration

If you’ve noticed a decrease in the air quality in your home, duct restoration may be a great solution! Duct restoration involves coating the interior of your existing duct work with a mold resistant, anti-bacterial agent that will improve air flow and reduce contaminants. With this specialized coating in place, the air inside your home will be cleaner and cooler while using less energy. This cost-saving technique is perfect for those with pets, seasonal or environmental allergies, or compromised respiratory systems.

Keep in mind- if your duct work’s structural integrity has been compromised in any way, it may need to be sealed or even replaced. If its been several years since your duct work has been evaluated or cared for, you could be losing cool air due to cracks or damage. After your duct work has been cleared of debris and contaminants, it may be easier to see areas throughout your system that are no longer sealed. As part of our free ventilation system evaluation, we’ll look at your existing duct work to determine how best to maximize efficiency and get the most out of your AC system.

How Is a Duct Restoration Completed?

A duct restoration is one of the best ways to provide clean air within your home and reduce odors. By reducing allergies, boosting efficiency, and creating a mold-resistant environment within your ducts, you gain tremendous benefits. So, what happens during this process?

Your technician will go over everything with you, but it’s always a good idea to have a safe place to put your pets before the technician arrives. It’s possible that you’ll be told to stay out of the home when all of this is going on. Go outside and work from your patio or go to the beach for the day. You don’t want to deal with the noise and odors of the non-toxic sealant, and you also don’t want to be in the way.

It helps to have furniture out of the way of any air intake vents. Generally, it’s a good idea to have plenty of open space for airflow, but if you have an end table near a vent, shift it out of the way to make it easier for the technician to access the covers and get them sealed up.

Once the technician arrives, a thorough duct cleaning will take place before anything else happens. Ask as it’s best to start with a clean system that’s been inspected for issues like water, rust, and infestations. It also provides a better view of any cracks, gaps, or issues that need addressing. If it’s okay to proceed, most vents are sealed up and a HEPA vacuum system is used to keep any allergens, dust, or particles from entering your home. Brushes break up any materials stuck on the walls of the duct and they’re suctioned out from the air ducts into the HEPA filter in a high-power vacuum system.

Next, the duct system is pressurized and a sealant is sprayed into the ducts and on the walls. That sealant is going to look for holes and fissures where there are leaks and seals them shut. It also clings to the walls. The sealant is antibacterial and mold and mildew-resistant, so air flows over the newly treated walls and germs, mildew, and mold spores don’t cling to the lining. Instead, those spores and microbes go into the air filter as you want them to.

Once the coating is in place and the vent covers and AC system is clean, everything is put back in place. A new air filter is installed. Many of the duct coatings used in restoration processes dry instantly, so there is no waiting to turn your AC back on. Odors are gone. Your air quality is cleaner, and you’ll have an efficient system that saves you money.

Is Duct Restoration Right For You?

Has it been years or even decades since your AC system was installed? That’s one sign that it could be time for a duct restoration appointment. Do you have pets? Have you found rodents or signs of them in or around your air intakes? Those are other indications that it’s time to get your ducts cleaned and sanitized. If you’re noticing odors from your ducts, find your bills are increasing, or are experiencing allergies more than usual, you should talk to an expert.

Duct restoration is a cost-effective way, but it’s not always the best option. There is the chance that the inspection will find other issues that require duct replacement or duct sealing. Your technician will go over the options and help you figure out the best way to proceed. The goal is to have a system that’s safe, effective, and not going to fail within the year.
